“For several years, Fray Luis de León suffered from not being allowed to teach, the harshest punishment for someone who was dedicated to education. The order to abandon his university classes was worse than being sentenced to prison. When he came back, he placed his vocation ahead of his personal wellbeing. This type of gesture says a great deal about who we are, and gives us the strength to continue insisting on more knowledge, more training, more development, more future.
The luminous appearance of a series of great poets in 16th and 17th Spanish literature enables us at present to select, for each moment and year, from amongst a magnificent sample that highlights the importance those poets had for Spanish thought and humanities.
Fray Luis de León is here with us: a rebellious, observant, sharp and sensitive man who is essential to understand the miracle that occurred in Spanish literature, which centuries later we continue to believe in and feel proud of reading, understanding and loving.
This Fray Luis is marvelous, with images, feelings, ideas and a sensitivity that force us to acknowledge our ignorance, to admit the limits of our knowledge in comparison with his. To read is work is to experience his words, feel his concepts, and be enlightened.”  Emilio Gutiérrez Caba
