Following a long European tour, at the end of 2022 Grupo Compay Segundo released Vívelo, its last studio album which keeps the legacy of the legendary Cuban musician and composer alive. The group, led by the bass guitar player from Havana Salvador Repilado, son of the “patriarch of soneros”, is travelling once again all over the world, including on this occasion to the Cervantes Theatre. In addition to the eleven pieces of Vívelo, the group will perform other famous songs live, including ‘Macusa’, ‘Sabroso’, ‘Las flores de la vida’, ‘La negra Tomasa’ and of course ‘Chan Chan’.
In 1997, Compay Segundo was part of the Buena Vista Social Club project and his song ‘Chan Chan’ became one of its flagship songs. Since his death in 2003, his son Salvador Repilado, who always accompanied Compay as double bass player in his concerts and recordings, is the director of the orchestra founded by his father in 1955, formerly known as Compay Segundo y sus Muchachos, with which he keeps his legacy alive and radiant with enthusiasm and fidelity: a universe of songs that protects the living memory of rural Cuban language and immortal joy of one of its greatest representatives.
Compay Segundo was the oldest active singer of all time and the one who sold the most records after his 93rd birthday. He died when he was 95 years old, although his intention was to reach the age of 116.
